My first career was in drug enforcement. When I was new on the job, I figured we should arrest someone once we had evidence of his crimes. Instead, we often let him run free for months before reeling him in. I quickly learned that, if we locked him up too soon, one thing was likely to happen: we wouldn’t have enough to get a conviction in court and he would be right back at it again. Also, one thing was sure to happen: the trafficking organization would simply replace the guy who was arrested and keep on going.
This helped me better understand why God allows evil and suffering to go on. Good is under investigation. Evil is under investigation. The evidence is piling up. The knowledge of good and evil is maturing.
When we clearly see how good good is, we will choose only good. When we clearly see how evil evil is, we will never choose evil again. This is a mature, universal knowledge of good and evil.
When there is a mature, universal knowledge of good and evil, we will choose only good, because we’ll clearly see how good good is. We’ll never choose evil again, because we’ll clearly see how evil evil is. No more fuel will be poured on the fire of suffering, and it will go out.
